I wouldn't call anything that Witchschool.com does 'great'. Easy, maybe.

i never understood the idea of not being self trained, I figured the guides pick the ones that really reach out. i friend can help you. I know of a few places on the net that you can get publications for free. I just downloaded Buckmans complete book of witchcraft. and mastering the craft for free. i currently carry about 60 publications on my laptop or more, I lost count. I would also like to tell you that you can "pick up" on a lot things here at wiccantogether.com, plus they have a nice selection of reading material that is reasonably priced. And the net is full of our secrets. Sssh don't tell anyone. But there is a video on you tube that tells you exactly how we manipulate energy. there is alot of information on youtube about meditation chakras just lots of resources to pick and choose from. This is helpful becuz I just found out that i was wiccan and didn't even know it. I been wiccan for years, just been self trained. I can if you would like forward you a few of my punlications for your review.

I think you mean Buckland's Complete Book of Witchcraft.

Anyway, I'd not recommend witchschool (or any of the sites like it as they are over-priced, often not accurate, not respected in the general Wiccan community, and they offer information that you can find anywhere). I'd also not recommend getting things off the internet for free. Though there's an argument that spiritual knowledge should be free, stealing it is not the way to go about getting it for free. If you really don't wish to pay for it, find a teacher that doesn't charge fees for their services.

As far as books (for I'd recommend that's where you start), I'd say start with Buckland and Cunningham (particularly Wicca for the Solitary Practitioner). Phyllis Curott is also good (especially Witchcrafting) as well as Amber K's True Magick (and most of her other books, though some of those are a bit more advanced).

Information on the web can be useful, especially when funds are tight, but it's a mix of good and bad (as are books). You have to be sure you can discern what's truth from fiction. That's why I'd say you should probably stay away from the internet for a while. Books are easy to provide more guidance on (i.e. stay away from Silver Ravenwolf, DJ Conway, and Edain McCoy; while you can learn something from every book, there are several inaccuracies in their writings and it's best to know the basics before diving into them).

PS I don't think there are any of our "secrets" on the web unless some people broke their oaths and made it public online. There's plenty of info, just not any real "secrets".
And how, exactly, were you Wiccan and not know it?

I recommend Witchcraft Today and The Meaning of Witchcraft by Gerald Gardner.

I think that what Pure Energy is referring to is the fact that the Wiccan belief and ways is what he was already practicing and believing in with out knowing what the Wiccan religon was. Once he began reading and studing he realized that he was already Wiccan. Correct me if I am wrong but, that is what I got from his conversation. Anyway I would agree that there are not really any secrets on the web but, again I think that he meant you can find out how to channel energy, learn to write spells, learn about herb usage, candle colors and usage, and the basics or the simple beginnings of Wiccan and Witch Craft.

Your local bookstore should carry Metaphysical / New Age books. I personally recommend Scott Cunningham's "Wicca: A Guide For The Solitary Practitioner."

yes yes you are so right, and for the record i did not steal anything

So, it isn't Buckland's Complete Book of Witchcraft, then? It is by someone named Buckman who wishes to publish his/her works online and give them away for free? If not, then, yes, it's stealing just as downloading music or movies illegally is stealing.

I am new to Wicca and purchased Scott Cunningham's book as mentioned by BluMage. I have found it very helpful, it's not full of "jargon" etc and his way of writing is very easy to read. I currently have 2 more of his books on order, Living Wicca and The Truth About Witchcraft Today. I have also just visited my local library and, as no books were on display, I asked and they kindly went out the back and produced 4 for me to borrow so this may be a worthwhile exercise. I didn't even get "strange" looks on requesting them lol.
