Hey everyone. Thought I'd show this group some love; I walk the path of Voodoo.

Pele O! Ona re O! I am always very enthusiastic to talk about the Orisha and to allow us to get more out of our connections to the Orisha. Remember Yemonja is Yeye mo eja or mother of fishes. She is not just the to layer of the Sea(because that is where most of the fish live) she is also the Orisha of the Ogun river in Nigeria and the spokes person of Olokun the Orisha of the Ocean. We call on Yemonja or Ora so that she can send our prayers to Olokun. Remember there are different Yemonjas, Ashaba, Asesu, Ogunte, Mayelewo, etc. I love when people are interested in Orisha but I must also stress that Orisha worship is systematic, communal and connected.
Orisha and Ifa priest are trained professionals that have been chosen from heaven to be mediators with the Orisha. Unfortunately we aren't in Nigeria where you visit the local Yemonja or other Orisha shire and have the head priest of the shrine make offerings for you and teach you about Yemonja or Orisha. I see many people who have an affinity for an Orisha then in divination when they receive their ilekes another Orisha has claimed their head. For instance you make like guns and fighting and war and you think that you are Omo Ogun, but the the Ifa Oracle says that you are a Child of Obatala. The Ogun energy that you have came with you from heaven, but you need Obatala and his purity to balance you out.
Orisha is communal and connected because if Yemonja is your mother. just like any mother she would want you to be with your bothers and sisters and her to know her ways and carry on her traditions. How can you know Yemonja if you don't know her Priests. They are the embodiment of the Orisha. Their initiation has given them a portion of her. I always suggest people to find a priest or temple they feel comfortable with. Even if you are not actively at the temple,(our temple is largely on-line) you can have that resource that can teach you how to connect with those energies. Three of Yemonja's favorite foods are Egbo( a special corn porridge), Asaro(yam porrigde) and Iyan pounded yam.

Hi Delicia,

Welcome to the group. If you wish to get more from your relationship with your 'mother' Yemaya I could suggest a few things. Some you may be doing already? First, why dont you follow the traditional way?

Is it because it is alien to your culture?

Do you feed her altar the way that is suggested, with money and food, shells and pearls, etc?

Have you asked her any direct questions and awaited their answer?

Do you visit the nearest beach or river and offer gifts or prayers to her?

If I have nothing available I will help her by tidying a part of the beach, throwing away rubbish. I will write affirmations or poems to her and whisper them on the windy beach at night. You could build a pond in the garden surrounded by flowers and care for it so that frogs, butterflies and bees, etc find a home there.

If I am waiting for the answer to a question I will sit silently at the beach awaiting her reply and she always answers. It can be by the next person that talks to you, a phone call you received later on, or even something you see on TV that night. Keep your ears and eyes open at all times. The gods are always communicating with us, if we would care to listen hard enough.

Good Luck, Skydancer x

Merry Meet everyone!
I hope you are having a great summer.

I hope I can get some input today. I am looking for a more intimate or personal way to connect to Yemaya. I do not follow Her the traditional way as specified in Santeria and/or Voodoo but I know She is my Mother. I talk to Her everyday and do special rituals to Her on my altar. However, I want to feel closer to Her and perhaps get a deeper confirmation that She is listening; if that makes any sense.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you!
Blessed be!

Merry meet!
I'm so glad and excited that I found this group. I am deeply passionate and interested in Santeria. My Mother is Yemaya and I seek a deeper understanding of Her. I especially would like to communicate and/or meet others of like mind in the Fayetteville, AR area.

Stop by my page and check it out. It is rather barren at the moment since I just joined so please stop by often.

Thanks!
Blessed be!

Hello everyone and welcome to the new members. It always seems like every time I turn around the group gets bigger without me even realizing it. I'm glad to see new people and people participating more often than not. Before a few months ago I strongly considered deleting the group because no one seemed to share or even participate. So I'm glad to see things are changing.
