Oh yeah...the app is kind of expensive for an app. I think I paid $8 for it when it first came out and was on sale. Yikes. But I find it to be well worth it. =D

Hi Tegwedd! I love that deck. I would love to have the first edition. Do you have the silver foiled one? That must be an incredible deck.

The thing about it, for me anyway, is I can actually get some emotion and idea of what's happening on the card. I'm not getting that from most other decks snd most of the cards from other decks. I can a couple of them but not many.

I've tried to "memorize" what the meanings are snd I don't like that. It's overwhelming for one and it goes against what "reading" is all about IMO.

If you have an iPhone you can get the app for the latest deck and see how you like that. I'm having fun with it. I use it regularly to just pull one card snd study it. I did a one card draw for a friend who's trying to make something of a jewelry making business and I got the 10 of swords. Yikes. I got gloom and doom immediately. So I'm trying to help her make something of the business. I'm reading up on business plans now. Hahaha!

Actually, that makes sense. rarely will you just look at a single card. You could also just do small three card spreads and see if the story they tell reminds you of someone you know (or an event in your life). That way youre learning them as parts pf a story ratherthsn singular cards to be memorized. (I got that from my tarot companion book)

That method has been suggested to me Joshua and it makes sense. Sorta. I'm not real interested in memorizing. I want to READ, if that makes any sense. And I'm actually getting what it's saying to me. I guess that's what folks mean by finding a deck that clicks with you.

The court cards still sorta confuse me but it's getting better.

The idea of SN app really threw me for a loop. I think I'd rather have a book for long term but for now the app has worked out OK.

The best way to memorize them is to take them in chunks (Major Arcana, Pentacles, etc.). Keep a notebook and devote each page to a single card. Write down not just what the book meaning is (if there is a book/app), but what you get from it. What is your first impression/gut reaction to the card? If you don't want to handwrite your observations (because that's a lot), you can type it up. That's what I did, and it's working for me (though I'm still in the process of really memorizing everything).

Hi guys! New to the group and fairly new to the site. Just exploring. I see some friends already here--hi Luna and Tegwedd! There may be others. *waves to all*

I've been trying to learn tarot for some time...working with it on and off...mostly off due to frustration of "not getting it". UNTIL I got a deck that makes a lot of sense to me. The Bohemian Gothic deck is kick ass awesome. I can look at a card and immediately tell what is being said. I don't get that with rider-Waite. Or any of the other decks I've collected. I started collecting before I started reading. Not sure how many decks I have...probably 10 or so.

The Bohemian Gothic is a "collector" deck. The first couple of editions are hard to get and the sell for a few hundred bucks on eBay. They just issued a new edition and I pre ordered and got it. This edition doesn't have a book...it has an app. Weird right. At first I didn't like the idea but now I do. I can do a reading with it or just browse through. Detailed explanations with each card.

Anyway...after all that yammering about the deck...I've found it to be a pleasure to learn. I usually pull one card a day and study it before I turn it over and get the explanation. And I'm finding I'm spot on most of the time.

How do you guys learn tarot or a new deck? Any tips for a newbie?

Let's  not forget his Tarot Of Dreams deck, which is as rich and beautiful as his other 2 decks. This deck also uses close up artwork. Its interesting to lay his decks out next to each other for comparing and contrasting.

Tegwedd - Ciro Marchetti is the artist for the Gilded Tarot. He's also done the Legacy of the Divine Tarot which looks completely amazing, though I prefer "busier" decks with more symbolic elements. The LotD has stunning artwork, but it's more close-ups of various figures' faces. I prefer a winder angle so you can see their posture and what else is around them.
