Hometown:

Relationship Status:
Married
Path or Tradition:
it's complicated. I'll say "general pagan" as i'm still researching what it is to be something else.

I think I can expand on this and say that I am a soft polytheist.

I think that I may be a kitchen witch
About Me:
I get fed up easily. I have the arrogance of youth only slightly tempered by an excessive amount of 'life experience.' I enjoy sushi, mutter paneer and naan, and peanut sauce with egg noodles.

I like my husband, he's quite cute. I call him Bear or when i'm feeling dorky, B3ar. He has far more patience than I do and is a great comfort to me. He didn't run away when I got the noro virus...a brave Bear indeed.

I'm going to graduate college in 14 credit hours with a degree in Anthropology from an infamous midwest university (there's a song. it's about tin soldiers and nixon). I love my university but I am way ready to be done here. Sometimes, I think i'm only sticking around so that I can graduate with my friends. HAH

I love Eddie Izzard. History is important, people...even if you're just making fun of it. I've had the immense pleasure of seeing him live twice: Sexie and Stripped. Both amazing shows.

I'm a big feminist, queer rights activist....y'know, all the basic food groups a growing college girl needs. I'm definatly 3rd wave feminism though. I think that the second wave made important contributions to the movement but fell short on gender and race issues. VERY short.

"Here's a piece of advice for your future: Distrust moral values. Especially when they're worn on an armband."

Favorite Website:
http://www.icanhascheezburger.com
Favorite Books:
I enjoy my text books and whatever primary sources I can get my hands on. I'm a knowledge zealot, I guess.

I'm a fan of Discworld...specifically anything in Ankh-Morpork that isn't related to the Wizards. Moist and Vimes and whatnot.

I LOVED Redwall as a kid and still read the books as they come out, just to honor my most favorite series.

Cunt by Inga Muscio was an amazing book that I read in high school. I love feminist books from Brownmiller to Valentie and the stages in between. Not a Friedan fan though...homophobic in her early works among other things.

Luna had a profound impact on my feelings towards trans people. Admittedly, at one time I was silently transphobic but having come to know some AMAZING (and dead fucking sexy) trannies, it's faded away into a simple lack of empathy. That is to say, not being comfortable in my biological sex is not something that I have ever felt. But I support trans and gender rights, thanks in part to Luna.

Stone Butch Blues was one of the hardest books that I have ever read. I sobbed and sobbed through it and came out with a profound respect for Those Who Came Before.

Jaqueline Carey and the Kushiel's Legacy series strike an important chord with me. I just love my S&M.

Outlaws of the Marsh and Romance of the Three Kingdoms were really great books...I want to build a tarot deck using the figures from ROTK. Lord Guan is seriously my hero with the infamous Lu Bu coming in a close second.
Favorite Movies:
Asoka, The Returner, Old Boy, Battle Royale, and other Asian films. Memoirs of a Geisha was a good (if not entirely accurate) movie. I desperately need to see the 82 episode Romance of the Three Kingdoms series they made in China.
Favorite Bands:
Tori Amos, MSI, Spiral Rhythm, Inkubus Sukkubus, Nightwish, Rancid, Disturbed, Rilo Kiley, Ani Difranco...Bikini Kill is still the best when driving during the summer. My secret indulgence is HIM; it's a sad thing, i know, but I can't help myself.

Bare Naked Ladies is also a wonderful band to listen to while sipping mulled cider at a house party.

Totem animals

I'm not going to bother making citations for this little rant because it's in my blog, not out on the open forums. I mean, you can comment if you want and I may or may not respond. Dear Most Pagans, You do not, in fact, have a totem animal. You have a spirit or power animal. A totem is a word with a specific usage and as an anthropologically minded lass, I'd appreciate it if you'd stop co-opting words and giving them new meaning. A totem is a animal that is affiliated with a specific clan, gro… Continue

Olaf H Prufer

I've been out of town for a few days, seeing my niece and enjoying all the curiosities that a new life can bring to a family. She is, by the way, the most perfect 3 week old baby. I won't even argue with anyone about her perfection. Nope. I'm right and everyone else's "perfect" baby can't hold a candle to my only niece. I am of course, being tongue in cheek. And no, my brother did not name his baby girl Olaf H. Prufer. I'll get to that in a moment. New life changes the roles that people play in… Continue

How NOT to believe >.

Personal religion is hard for me. In the general sense, religion is the most influential man-made thing on this planet. It's effects are vastly important and all-permeating. For me though, in my deep personal way, religion hits the brick wall of logical thought and need for proof. I've NEVER, in my living memory, been able to take that leap of all-necessary faith and believe in something without proof. I need proof and part of the reason I have settled on paganism is because in a way, it is prov… Continue

Dreams PtIII

I've had some interesting and wonderful dreams this past few nights. I can't remember most of them -a sad result of failing to write down what I can remember upon awakening- but I do remember last night's dream because it was so fun. I woke up yesterday with a massive headache. It only got worse as the day wore on to I took some pills and went about my day at work. I get headaches when the barometric pressure changes and a storm is coming. I checked the weather report and found that it's going… Continue

I appreciate your post on the forum Homophobia is Wrong but the piece is a poem. Not a proposal to change anyones opinion or rules. I appriciate your passion though, I am a straight, married male but remember when african americans were not allowed to be married and was appauled at how the bill went that was passed to allow same sex marriage and how it was shot down in nearly every state. Anyway, just thought I would mention that it was not a piece to be taken as a call to action as it appears you may have taken it. Thanks again though.
